Born in Erdington, Birmingham, Corey joined local club Aston Villa’s youth system at the age of 11.

Between 2007 and 2016, he developed his footballing skills and techniques, progressing through the various age categories at Villa Park. He also made 4 appearances for England Under-17s in 2013, scoring 2 goals.

He signed his first professional contract in 2016 and made his senior debut in Villa’s Championship loss at Huddersfield Town, coming on as an 87th-minute substitute in a 1-0 defeat on 7th March 2017.

Blackett-Taylor made his League Cup debut in Villa’s 0-2 home defeat to Middlesbrough on 19th September 2017, his second senior game.

Corey continued to represent the underage sides at Villa but found little playing time in the senior team. Consequently, he joined local League One club Walsall on 31st January 2019, on loan until the end of the 2018-19 season.

He made 10 appearances for the Saddlers as the Bescot Stadium side were relegated to League Two in May 2019.

Blackett-Taylor’s 12-year association with Aston Villa was terminated in the summer of 2019, with Corey leaving Villa Park at the end of his contract. He subsequently joined Tranmere on 26th June 2019, signing a 2-year deal at Prenton Park.

Interesting Fact: Corey was named in a first-team Aston Villa squad as early as 2015, 18 months prior to his professional debut. He was an unused substitute in a League Cup victory over Notts County on 25th August 2015.
