Joining Tranmere in 2010 as a young player, Evan spent 4 years in the youth ranks with Rovers before signing his first professional contract in the summer of 2014. In November that year he would make his senior debut in the League Two away match at Luton Town. Despite earning plaudits for his performance, he found it tough to break into an increasingly unstable first eleven.

After relegation to the National League, Gary Brabin allowed Evan to leave on loan to Burscough and then Trafford, making a combined 14 appearances. He spent the remainder of the 2015-16 season on loan at Salford City, playing 23 times and scoring once in their promotion-winning season. He returned to Rovers during the summer of 2016 and was loaned out to Bradford Park Avenue during the 2016-17 season.

Evan came back to Prenton Park with even more external experience under his belt from a loan spell at Warrington Town in 2016-17. He played his second senior match for Tranmere on the final day of the 2016-17 National League season in the away fixture at Maidstone United.

Gumbs signed a new 1-year contract with the Club on 20th May 2017.

Alongside a further 4 Tranmere appearances, Gumbs spent much of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Warrington Town. As one of just two players who were with the Club in their previous League One campaign in 2013-14, Evan is the second-longest-serving player currently at Prenton Park.

Although he sustained a serious ACL injury in Rovers' 0-0 with Lincoln City, Evan signed a new 1-year contract on 18th June 2019, taking his tenure with Tranmere into its sixth year.

Interesting Fact: Evan played 23 games as part of the Salford City squad who won promotion to the National League North in the 2015-16 season.
