A graduate of the Tranmere youth system, Luke has quickly established himself as a bright prospect in the goalkeeping department. Making his debut on the final day of the 2016-17 season, Luke kept a clean sheet as a very young Tranmere side won 1-0. In the summer of 2017, Luke was selected to represent Wales at the Toulon Tournament — a competition for the best players under 20 years of age.
At the tournament, Wales' first participation, Luke kept 2 clean sheets (including against the host-nation, France) as the Welsh went through the group stage unbeaten. Whilst they missed out on the next round, Luke was recognised on an individual basis when he was named 'Best Goalkeeper' at the end-of-tournament awards. He was also selected as the goalkeeper for the 'Best XI' team of the tournament.
On 2nd July 2017, Luke signed a new 1-year contract at Prenton Park.
Pilling came on for the injured Scott Davies in the 5-2 defeat at AFC Fylde on 1st January 2018, but Tranmere had already conceded 3 goals before he did so. He spent some time on loan at Warrington Town until the end of the 2017-18 season.
Having been selected in the first senior Welsh squad selected by Ryan Giggs, Pilling's reputation as a promising young goalkeeper continued to grow and he signed a further 1-year deal at Tranmere in June 2018.
For most of the second-half of the 2018-19 season, Luke was the clear second-choice goalkeeper at Prenton Park. He was named on the bench multiple times, including in the 2018-19 League Two Play-off Final victory over Newport County that secured a return to League One.
On 25th June 2019, Luke again signed a 1-year extension, keeping him at Prenton Park until the end of the 2019-20 season.
Interesting Fact: Luke's international debut came for Wales Under-17s in a 5-5 draw against Hungary in September 2013.
